Weekly Devotion—April 30, 2025

By Pastor Chris Simmons

Know always that God’s Grace, Mercy, and Peace are yours through Jesus Christ.

  • How was your spring break? What did you do?

  • When you “need a break” what do you do to rest?

A break is good because it resets perspective. It helps us see clearly the work we do, the results we are getting, and the truth of what lies before us. Oftentimes, we see the hard work that still remains and see the realization that we don't trust God enough to rest as we should. Especially after this Easter, look to our King Jesus for refuge from the storm of life, and rest for your soul.

Isaiah 1-2
See, a king will reign in righteousness
and rulers will rule with justice.
Each one will be like a shelter from the wind
and a refuge from the storm,
like streams of water in the desert
and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.

Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Prayer

Lord God, we come before you seeking rest. Rest is more than a “lack of working” but a step in faith. Faith that you will help us accomplish all that you’ve set before us, even while we rest and “sabbath”. Help us to work diligently when we are called to, and rest just as well when we should. We pray this all in your name Jesus, Amen.
